A client portal for a logistics company gave customers a faster way to submit customs documents and follow freight through the shipment lifecycle.

The challenge

The public-facing workflow had to stay simple while the backend exchanged files with a government customs system and connected reporting, email, document storage, and shipment data.

Engineering approach

  1. Built the portal with Django, Django REST Framework, Bootstrap, and HTMX.
  2. Handled government customs integration through XML file transfers.
  3. Integrated Office 365 APIs for email and reporting workflows.
  4. Used a recorded supporting stack that included SFTP, AWS S3, Celery, Redis, PostgreSQL, Caddy, and Sentry.
